Special Announcement

(Periods of medical unavailability)

Updated July 13, 2026

As many of you may know, in recent years I've had to severely cut back on my playing schedule due to advancing hand arthritis.  For the most part it has not gotten in the way of my tuning career, until the last year when tuning really started to become uncomfortable, never mind simple tasks like pulling up my socks, lifting a plate, opening a water bottle.  You get it.

So, after trying many things to little or no avail, I'm having surgery on July 20 to replace my left thumb joint.  CMC joint replacement is a fairly new thing in the U.S., despite its being performed widely in Europe for over a decade.  Regardless, I'm excited about the prospects.  However, it means some down time while I recover.

My schedule will be affected in the following ways:

· NO TUNING for 3 weeks from July 20 - Aug 9, 2026

· I plan to RESUME tuning the week of August 10, 2026

Looking down the road, I anticipate having additional surgery for my right thumb as well, somewhere late September perhaps.  Recovery period may be a bit longer for this one for reasons I won't go into, but I may be out-of-service for most of October, resuming in November.  I will update this page with the specifics as they become available.

"I NEED A TUNING---what do I do?"

If you are willing to wait until the week of August 10, I will be happy to schedule you in.  If you have an immediate need for tuning, please text me and I will be happy to refer you to someone.  I have a couple of other tuners that I work with and they do a fine job.  So, it's up to you if you don't mind waiting or if your need is immediate.  My text is 631-987-4131.

THANK YOU for your understanding!  Wish me luck!

Jim
